Venice Reflections
Location:
subiaco
“Venice Reflections” is a serendipitous collaboration between Zabou, Kiara Rechichi-Baker and Sabrina Dowling Giudici. Profoundly inspired by their experiences at the Venice Glass Art Week in 2024, this exhibition is essentially underpinned by the many times over the decades that they have individually immersed themselves in La Serenissima. Now, collaborating for the first time, they place on centre stage, their reflections on the enmeshment of Venetian arts, culture, and history, together with elements of the lagoon’s ecology.
Zabou creates thematic jewellery collections inspired by history - Ottoman Recollection; ancient trade routes - Silk Road, Venice In Venice Out; and more. From her atelier in Dijon, she has responded to Venice through the magic world of antique and contemporary Venetian glass beads and other timeless elements used in jewellery in all cultures, tracing connections between people, places and memories.
Since working with the late master printmaker, Gianfranco Gorini at the Venice Printmaking Studio in 2013-14, Perth artist Kiara Rechichi-Baker has been enthralled by the laguna Veneta, seeing the lagoon as a feminine being, alive with colour, complex and immensely beautiful. Through diverse two-dimensional mediums she reflects tidal connections between civilisation and nature, the here and now, and past history.
Italo-Australian creative, Sabrina Dowling Giudici expresses her lagoon experiences through a body of glass artworks, highlighting the prestigious Venetian artform but dynamically shifting from their hot-glass techniques, to a more Australian warm-glass craft methodology. Through her distinctive art-science inspired visual language, Sabrina presents a body of artworks interpreting marine elements of the lagoon’s ecology.
Three artists. Three mediums. One inspiration.
