ORNAMENT is a collection of works on paper and ceramics that combine Zago’s interest in plant morphology and botanical illustration with motifs and patterns drawn from art history. Indeed, the detailed structures of plant forms were widely taken as proof of a divine architecture before Darwinism. She has created still life paintings with awkward compositions and painstaking detail to investigate the relationship between ornamentation and the natural world. Imagined or actual decorated vases display Zago’s observations in the bush and garden, many of which hold strong childhood memories.
