ALAN MULLER – RIVER AERIAL AND TERRESTRIAL: Paintings and Drawings of Derbarl Yerrigan Swan River
Alan Muller’s expansive exhibition expresses a deeply personal response to the Swan River’s imagined 'spirit of place’. Informed by more than a decade’s research, these works reveal surprising perspectives of an enduring waterway.
‘I have been continually inspired by Derbarl Yerrigan Swan River as an ancient river coursing through an ancient landscape. Over thousands of years Whadjuk Noongar people have lived through a changing environment of ice ages, warming climates, rising sea levels and protracted droughts. With great skill, the Whadjuk shaped the boodja so it brimmed with wildlife for food, and sustained the seasonal movement of community over beautiful country.’ Alan Muller 2022
'As a spiritual place and physical resource, the riverscape is ancient, powerful and underestimated. Perth is ready to better understand its past and present environment, its people, its diverse ecologies and challenges and what it means to live here, by the River'.
