‘Sculpture,’ says Denaro, ‘has experienced a resurgence since the 1990’s when I started my practice. There were only a few sculptors around, they made small objects and had a tough time competing with the prevailing art = painting perception.’ Denaro has enjoyed significant opportunities for public art but now returns to idiosyncratic works that are his own invention, that lead to more complex pieces, apparently derived from line drawing with old or used found materials being key to this new body of work.
