Kate Elsey is inspired by her unwavering love for nature, be it landscape, flora or, in this case, the birds that captivate her imagination. Avian Musings - Birds Season 3 is a treat not to be missed this winter at Cherubino Wines in Margaret River.
Elsey created this series of ink and paint musings in her sketch pad to illustrate the archetypal structure of birds, either imagined or inspired by the abundant bird life outside.The titles reflect her humour and connection to her subjects: beak to wing in The Thinker references Rodin’s famous sculpture, My Day Out depicts an adventurous bird in a paper boat, while Lady Duck is stylishly dressed in a petticoat of feathers.
“From travels to nature, I sketch the elements I see and feel. In the studio it’s me, the sketch book or the linen, music, paint and the moment, that make my image. It begins with paper, a black pen or a stick, and a spot near the bush to sit and observe.”
