Stewart MacFarlane gives us stories. His art tends to focus on three subjects; luscious urban, rural or beach landscapes, figurative tableaux capturing charged moral or emotional engagements. All are rendered in glorious colour and many are animated by very believable, if fictitious, human personalities. The landscapes are often actual locations. We immediately recognise the location, the Westin, the view from quarantine, Maslin Beach and so on.
