WENDY SHARPE – PARIS
Artist:
Wendy Sharpe AM
Location:
subiaco
8 - 30 JUNE, SUBIACO. Official Opening 6-8pm Thursday 13 June.
Wendy Sharpe, one of Australia’s most awarded artists, presents Paris, a dynamic and vibrant exhibition of Parisian moments. Delving into the secret world of Parisians, Sharpe depicts the coexistence between the real and the imagined with vividly lit glimpses into life in Montmartre, where she lives for part of every year. Renowned for her figurative oils on canvas, the exhibition reflects her delight and engagement with her milieu.
“This is not the postcard Paris. These paintings are like stills from a film or a paragraph from an unwritten novel - you are given the scene, the characters and the mood, and the narrative is open.” Wendy Sharpe 2019
Sharpe won the 1996 Archibald Prize for a flamboyant self-portrait and has since been awarded the Sulman Prize, two travelling scholarships, the Portia Geach Memorial Award, a myriad of other accolades and most recently the 2019 Calleen Art Prize.
