Women of the West opens in our beautiful Mandoon Estate gallery on Saturday 21 September. In spring, this is the perfect setting for six local artists who reflect on aspects of the wildflowers, the light and the mood of their local surroundings using distinctly different methods and materials.
Samantha Dennison's paintings are concerned with space, seasonality and the changes in light. Jenni Doherty uses layers of lino block printing, pattern and gold leaf to inform her intimate works about the passing of time. Sandie Schroder uses fire to burn paper or birchwood to create unique works that speak of regeneration. Jean Sher's oil paintings delight in the changing light and mood at a certain time of day. Fi Wilkie is inspired by the native flora of her region. Barbara George creates unique ceramic objects that reference our local wildflowers using a primitive kiln firing technique.
