“A concept is a brick. It can be used to build a courthouse of reason. Or it can be thrown through the window.” ― Gilles Deleuze

Arts practice can be polemic in nature, where revelation often emerges through opposition.
Counterforce is curated by Dr Miik Green, and showcases three practices that utilise this tension through various means. These artists have established and rigorous practices; constant experimentation redefines their works, that press the edges and extents of contemporary West Australian practice.
Where Paul Moncrieff's combinations of painted ply create new structures and systems, Merrick Belyea strips excess to reveal utility, his scarified landscapes offer a glimpse at support systems that sustain appearance, where pretence is eroded or uprooted. Green’s own works reveal under stress; combining unlike materials, he seeks to capture transformation in active exchange.
