Artist:
Claire Beausein
Location:
subiaco
1 - 21 SEPTEMBER, SUBIACO. Official Opening 6-8pm Thursday 6 September. The exhibition will be opened by Mr Kenji Miyata, Deputy Consul-General from the Consulate-General of Japan in Perth.
Pure Land explores Beausein’s interest in phenomena such as synchronicity, intuition and the experience of beauty in Nature. Her work conveys a reverence for Nature as an expression of the Numinous. Pure Land is a direct translation of Japanese “Jodo” a branch of Buddhism widely practiced in Japan. Understood in many ways Beausein has used it to describe a place where the everyday becomes imbued with meaning and metaphor.
Pure Land features Beausein’s unique techniques with paper, and furthers her scope with washi paper, indigo dye, embossing, woodcut, backlight and stitch.
