about this exhibition
6 - 30 AUGUST, SUBIACO. Artist Talk 2pm Saturday 18 August.
In The Baldives: new paintings and drawings Andy Quilty explores ideals of home viewed through the high-density housing estates of the artist’s locale, Baldivis - the fastest growing suburb in Western Australia. Taking the form of large-scale abstracts on panel and scratchy graphite landscapes on paper, this new body of work identifies and re-contextualises markers in the suburban environs to interrogate the promises of a low-income paradise.
Graduating with a BFA from Curtin University in 2003, Quilty regularly exhibits in solo and group shows in WA and interstate. He is a Lecturer in Fine Art at The University of Western Australia and Program Patron for the Military Art Program Australia – a non-profit organisation supporting veterans through art therapy. He has been a finalist in significant awards including the Kedumba Drawing Award, Hazelhurst Works on Paper Prize, Rick Amor Drawing Prize, Salon des Refuses, Joondalup Invitation Art Award and many others.
