ELEANOR MILLARD – NOW AND PAST

Location: West Perth
4 - 26 MAY, WEST PERTH.
Eleanor Millard’s haunting images of the coastal landscape of Victoria hover between representations of presence and memory. Warm glowing lights suggest home, but at the same time her structures appear isolated and distant in the vast landscape. Subtle washes impart a distinctive textural quality, and Millard’s restrained palette recalls the vignetting effect of memory. Her work captures the unsettled space between presence and absence, evoking a sense of comfort as well as tension. These ethereal landscapes are fragments of the artist's personal dreams and recollections of a time past which is now informing the present. They invite contemplation of another psychological dimension.
