IAN MOSS & SANDIE SCHRODER – BURNED & TURNED II

Location: mandoon
Sandie Schroder and Ian Moss join forces to present Burned and Turned II.

Schroder’s focus, as a consequence of being required to stay put for the past two years, has been on her own backyard and the bushland that lies beyond. Her smoky landscapes that warn of impending fire, evoke her feelings when state borders were about to open.

“I am constantly drawn to the unique beauty of our wildflowers. Their vibrance, life and colour provide inspiration, intrigue, and a sense of hope. Year after year they re-emerge and flourish, serving as a reminder that even in the wake of bushfires, life carries on. Insects crawling amongst wildflowers and visits to museums have led to my new and quirky ‘Bug in a Box’ series. I create my artworks by burning directly onto Archival paper or Birch wood panels.” Moss turns his timber works that continue to excite from carefully selected pieces of wood whether the source be A grade or recycled wood rescued from firewood piles.

“Timber is a natural product and as such provides food and shelter for insects, birds and animals that can consequently change the integrity of the timber. The change or ‘used’ features attract me and can become the focal point of the finished piece. I like to achieve contrast by combining different timbers, metals, paints and dyes – and occasionally to include a surprise that is only revealed on close examination.”
