Surrounded by car parts in an auto recycling business, James Corbett saw sculptural forms in them and soon became an artist. His subjects range from people and animals to his trademark speed demon automobiles. Since the start of his career, Corbett’s works have found homes across Australia and internationally. For him, the balance between chrome parts, mechanical bits and the lovely patinated or brass parts is intrinsic to the completed piece. Corbett’s sculptures can be seen both as desirable art and an intriguing time capsule from the age of the motorcar.
