Light drives our sense of perception, along with colour and, it can be argued, reveals the qualities of the colours: the contrasts, hues, lights and darks that have been the focus of artists since the days of ochre pigments 60,000 years ago. With the advent of organic dyes, then synthesized colours, artists today explore the diverse characteristics of daylight, nightlight, x-rays, additive and subtractive mixing and express themselves through mediums such as photography, painting, ceramics, sculpture, glass and felting to name a few.

Light and Perception gathers a select group of our artists, whose practices range from monochromatic to vibrantly coloured and gives a glimpse into their imagination, influences and commentary.
