Stephen Eastaugh – Homing in on Home
Artist:
Stephen Eastaugh
Location:
West Perth
Stephen Eastaugh has journeyed through nearly 100 countries, setting up studios and exhibitions in locations as varied as a Russian icebreaker in the Arctic, the barren expanses of Antarctica, and even a bus in the Sahara desert. Inspired by his travels, including three Antarctic residencies as an Australian Antarctic Arts Fellow, Eastaugh explores memory, movement, and place through works in textile, leather, fabric, acrylic, and wool. With over 100 solo exhibitions worldwide, his art is held in collections such as the National Gallery of Australia and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
“I found one of the first representational drawings I ever made in an old tiny worn and wrinkled diary full of chaotic scribbles. It seems that I tried to depict a little house but without windows or a door. A typical child's version of a house but I added two legs. All those decades ago I drew a mobile home that could walk and today, I still contemplate the concept of home and where on earth such a thing is located.” Stephen Eastaugh
