Ingrid Windram

“My painting is not about trying to copy the landscape, but about how it makes me feel - it’s a response to the light, the air, the colours and the shapes. I want to give the viewer a sense of being there, not just seeing it.”

- Ingrid Windram

Ingrid Windram is a Western Australian artist whose career spans four decades. It was shaped by her early dedication to formal study in Adelaide and enriched by extensive fieldwork across Australia and overseas. Having been based in Broome for much of her career, Windram is best known for her richly textured, light-filled interpretations of the Kimberley landscape. Her ability to capture the essence of a place in her expressive, layered compositions has established her as a respected and recognisable figure in the field of contemporary Australian landscape painting. Over the years, her work has been widely exhibited and is held in both private and corporate collections across Australia.

Drawing on memory, movement and the sensory experience of being in the landscape, Windram’s paintings convey an intimate and sustained relationship with place. Working primarily in acrylics and mixed media, she often paints directly after spending time in remote regions, seeking to capture the immediacy of her impressions rather than depicting a literal scene. Her works invite viewers to experience the rhythm and spirit of the land, encouraging emotional connection and contemplation.
