Roslyn Hamdorf
“I hope people get a sense of location or place when viewing a painting, despite how it has been broken down.”
Roslyn Hamdorf is a Quindalup‑based painter celebrated for her richly textured, semi‑abstract interpretations of Western Australia’s rugged landscapes. Working predominantly in oil, acrylic and cold‑wax, she draws deep inspiration from ancient rock formations shaped by erosion—exploring themes of balance, tension and geological time through layered surfaces that evoke sand, stone and wind‑worn cliffs.
Her intuitive use of spatulas and gestural mark-making breaks landscapes into evocative grains and forms, inviting viewers to sense place even in abstraction: “balance, tension and erosion are properties she aims to portray,” and she hopes people “get a sense of location or place … despite how it has been broken down”. A frequent participant in Margaret River Region Open Studios, Vasse Art Awards, Bunbury SWAN Awards, and exhibiting most recently in Broome and Perth, Hamdorf continues to channel regional beauty into compelling visual narratives.
