“The act of still life painting is a continual search for beauty in the most ordinary of life’s moments.”

Julie Davidson is an Australian painter renowned for her luminous still lifes that explore the interplay of light, time, and transience. Trained at Prahran College, Victoria, she has exhibited widely across Australia, with this being her 13th solo show with Linton & Kay. She has been a finalist in the Blake, Mandorla, and Eutick Still Life Awards.

Inspired by masters such as Caravaggio, Piero della Francesca, and Vermeer, Davidson transforms everyday objects into meditations on stillness and beauty. Her paintings elevate the still life tradition beyond realism—inviting viewers to slow down, reflect, and find quiet beauty in the passage of light and the poetry of ordinary things.

As visual-arts writer Andrew Stephens observes, “Each painting is an elegant invitation to meditate on the exquisite qualities of time and its relationship with light. After all, as science decrees and as Einstein theorised, time and light are inextricably entwined.”
