Douglas Kirsop

"The timeless, vast and spiritual nature of this land has a power which has not been felt anywhere else."

Douglas Kirsop is a Western Australian artist renowned for his evocative landscape paintings, which explore the vast and rugged beauty of Australia's coastlines and remote wilderness regions. During his four-decade career, Kirsop has developed a signature style merging realism with a sensitive, atmospheric approach to light and space. Often focusing on maritime themes, his work includes detailed depictions of boats, islands, and shifting seascapes, capturing the natural world's serenity and intensity. Through his use of subtle tonal shifts and meticulous brushwork, Kirsop invites viewers to experience contemplative and almost meditative encounters with place.

Kirsop has exhibited widely across Australia, including regular solo shows at Linton & Kay Galleries in Perth and Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery in Sydney. His paintings are held in private and institutional collections, and he has completed high-profile commissions such as a suite of works for the luxury superyacht White Rabbit Golf. In 2016, he extended his reach internationally with an exhibition in Singapore. Whether working from the dramatic coastlines of the Kimberley region or revisiting familiar locations such as Rottnest Island, Kirsop continues to build a compelling visual archive of Australia's maritime identity and natural grandeur.
