Celia Perceval: Bush Diary

Desert Flowers after Rain Road to Meekathara WA, 2024

OFFICIAL OPENING

Subiaco Gallery
Thursday 7 November 6-8pm

Please join us to celebrate 'Bush Diary', Celia Perceval's first exhibition in Perth for seven years, and enjoy an informal Q & A with her nephew, Christophe Perceval. Celia Perceval is far more than a traditional en plein air painter. Her process is less about taking control, through replicating the scenery, and more about relinquishing this very thing. "We change the landscape too much. I feel like I'm painting what's left of that landscape. An experience I had when painting in WA, deep in the scrub near the Stirling Ranges, illustrates my point. A huge black cockatoo plonked down on the proteas right in front of me; he was so close but took no notice, thinking that I was just part of the scrub. So he became a central part of the picture. It is experiences like this that drive my inspiration to paint! I'm very at home in the Australian Bush."
