Bec Juniper
Lane 4
The title of this exhibition is named after the studios we occupied in 2025/26 at the Perth Airport
I was in Lane 4. Lane 4. was massive enough but dwarfed by the scale of the over all site We had three large sheds and 7000 sm of hardstand including our own wetland - to be artistic.
All of these paintings were created in this optimistic realm which was a once in a lifetime experience
The year in residence brought me geographically close to my birthplace and I was flooded with childhood memories of growing up in Darlington, “granite country”, as I like to call it.
It is an ancient geological formation, one of the oldest on earth and beneath it lies the swan coastal plain which was once an ocean
As a child I would look down on the plains, we had a very clear view of the Perth Airport and the surrounding areas, I knew a little about the different geology mostly from lived experience of moving from the granite hills down to the sand, it is of a completely different nature, and I was fascinated to be down there looking up, rather than the other way around, it is like looking back in time
These works are titled around those days, from memories, to feelings, and responses to this environment, but also in the knowledge of what has formed this ancient land.
