Bec Juniper

"I wish to pay homage to where I live with my work, this is a richly beatific place. I sense that my paintings belong, that I’m picking up on something very particular to here."

- Bec Juniper

Bec Juniper is a painter and public artist whose work explores the fragility and resilience of the Western Australian landscape. With a career spanning three decades, she draws on the state's unique geology, such as salt lakes, mining scars and remote plains, seen through an aerial lens. Influenced by formative journeys into the interior with her late father, Robert Juniper, she transforms natural and man-made topographies into abstract visual compositions.

Her paintings are layered with pigment and texture, evoking a feminine sensibility within an often unforgiving environment. “While others see harshness and danger,” she says, “I see a soft beauty in the landscape — a strange unfolding of ephemeral and permanent marks.” Her work reflects a deep environmental awareness and a personal philosophy of strength through softness — treading lightly while maintaining a clear purpose.

She has completed numerous public art and landscape design commissions across Australia, and her work is represented in private and institutional collections internationally. Notable projects include installations at the Ritz Carlton and Intercontinental hotels, as well as Port Hedland International Airport, and multiple appearances at Sculpture by the Sea.
