Born in 1971, Steve Lopes lives and works in Sydney. “I try to deal with the figure and the landscape together. For me, it’s about the relationship we have with our surrounds. The tension between the two both visually and metaphorically is what makes it interesting to tackle that subject.” (Issue 9 of Artist Profile magazine, p. 65)
Lopes was invited to participate in the 2015 ‘Your Friend the Enemy’ Gallipoli Commemoration Exhibitions shown in Sydney, Canberra, Bathurst and Wellington. His work is held in numerous important collections including Australian Parliament House Collection, Canberra and the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
