Stephanie Reisch
“I am interested in exploring the landscape from an elemental state. I'm curious about the aspects of the landscape that can't be seen beneath the surface … I want to capture that movement, primal energy, and sense of place that represents the layering of different time scales.”
Born in Belgium and now based in Perth (Boorloo), Stephanie Reisch is an interdisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, sound and installation. Her practice explores the unseen dimensions of the natural world through a lens of prehistory, engaging with themes of absence, animism and the vast time scales that connect human existence to the cosmos.
Working predominantly in large-scale oil paintings, Reisch moves beyond traditional depictions of the Australian landscape, focusing instead on the energies and traces left behind. Her richly layered abstractions draw on the colours and textures of the earth, evoking fleeting impressions of animals and primordial environments. This painterly language extends into her sound and sculptural installations, where field recordings—often captured at specific times of day—are layered to create immersive, atmospheric works.
Reisch holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Western Australia and is represented by Linton & Kay Galleries. Her work is held in private, corporate and public collections across Australia, including the Town of Victoria Park and the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Art Collection.
