Sarah Keirle

“I aim to capture the spirit of the Australian bush through the forms and textures of seedpods, transforming natural beauty into tactile ceramic art.”

Sarah Keirle is a Western Australian ceramic artist renowned for her expressive raku-fired sculptures inspired by native seedpods. Born in England, she graduated with a BA (Hons) in 3D Design (Ceramics) from Staffordshire University in 1998 and immigrated to Perth the same year. Her hand-built works—often based on gumnuts, banksias, and marri seedpods—reflect the unique shapes and textures of Western Australia's flora, capturing the essence of regeneration and new life. Keirle employs a Western adaptation of traditional Japanese raku firing techniques, resulting in distinctive surface effects that evoke the intensity of natural bushfires. Her pieces are held in collections such as the Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne, and she is represented by Linton & Kay Galleries in Perth.
