Jasper Knight

“I paint vertically. It’s a gloss on gloss thing. I know I’m painting well when the background is doing as much for me as the foreground.”

Jasper Knight is a leading Australian contemporary artist renowned for his bold, post-Pop visual language and dynamic depictions of the urban environment. Working across painting, sculpture and installation, he combines industrial materials with layers of enamel and acrylic to create richly textured works that blur the line between abstraction and representation.

A graduate of Sydney College of the Arts and the College of Fine Arts, UNSW, Knight has been a finalist in the Archibald, Wynne, Sulman and Moran Prizes, winning the Mosman Art Prize in 2008. His work has been exhibited throughout Australia and internationally, and is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery and Artbank.
