"There are no rules. And if there are rules, then you may as well break them."

Ken Done AM is one of Australia’s most beloved contemporary artists, known for his vibrant and exuberant paintings that celebrate the country’s landscapes, flora, and lifestyle. Leaving school at 14 to study at the National Art School in Sydney, Done initially worked in international advertising before committing fully to his art career in 1980. His signature style is characterized by bold colors, loose brushwork, and an optimistic portrayal of Australian life that captures the energy and light of places like Sydney Harbour, the Great Barrier Reef, and tropical gardens. Over his career, he has held more than 100 solo exhibitions worldwide and extended his influence beyond galleries through licensed artwork on clothing, homewares, and public commissions.

Beyond his artistic contributions, Done has served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, using his creative voice to support humanitarian efforts. He is also notable for his involvement in major cultural events, including designing visual elements for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and painting a BMW Art Car. His achievements have been recognized with several honors, including the Order of Australia in 1992 and the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Award in 2007. Through his joyful and accessible approach to art, Ken Done has left an enduring mark on Australia’s cultural identity and continues to inspire audiences with his celebration of color, optimism, and everyday beauty.
