Jules Sher

Born and brought up in South Africa, Jules studied painting at the Central School of Art in London from 1956 and moved to Australia in 1967. It was the great exhibition of American Abstract-Expressionism at the Tate Gallery in London in 1958 that helped change the direction of Jules Sher’s art. The style of Nicolas de Stael and the lyrical abstract paintings of Richard Diebenkorn have also had an important influence in his approach to abstracted landscape painting.
