Originally from the South Australian Adelaide Hills, Josh and his family moved to Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia when he was in his early teens.
At a young age Josh began framing for the family business, Windram Art, however, it wasn’t until he was in his early 40s that he began his own art journey.
In 2017 he moved to WA’s South West where he now operates out of his two studios – one in Vasse and one in Nannup.
Josh works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas. His works depict a contemporary abstraction of the inspirational Australian landscape. He takes advantage of contrast to produce dramatic skies against rugged landscape adding opposite complimentary colours and balancing neutrals to create works that are truly unique.
A strong sense of space, beauty and drama are portrayed through his use of various techniques that also give his artworks harmonious balance. His two very distinct styles both contain a striking straight horizon line.
As an intuitive artist, his works are generally not of a particular location but are inspired completely by the vast Australian scenery.
As music is a huge part of Josh’s life, each of his paintings are named after a song – one that may have inspired him, one that he may have been listening to whilst painting, or one that he just loves!
In 2019 Josh received the People’s Choice award for his piece ‘Shimmer’ at the Bunbury Catholic College Art Extraordinaire. Shortly after he had his first duo exhibition at Jahroc Galleries with a sell-out show.
In 2021 Josh took out first prize at the Vasse Art Award with his entry ‘Everlong’. In this same year he also received the People’s Choice award for his piece ‘Amazing Grace’ at the Bunbury Catholic College Art Extraordinaire and was a Finalist in the Busselton Art Award with his work ‘Into The Light’.
In 2022 Josh received the Bunbury Catholic College Art Extraordinaire People’s Choice award for his piece ‘My Happiness’ as well as the People’s Choice award for ‘Shine Like It Does’ at the Margaret River Independent School Art Auction.
2024 will bring Josh his first ever solo exhibition; being held mid-year at Black Stump Gallery in Broome.
