Jina was born in 1984, South Korea and immigrated to Australia in 2013. Lee began her journey as a sculptor in 1999 after being accepted into the Kaywon School of Arts in South Korea. After graduating from art school, she studied a Bachelor in Traditional Korean Culture and arts at Korean National University of Cultural Heritage. It was during this time, that Jina first learned about the stone sculpting using traditional Korean techniques of carving. This sparked a flame that led her to complete a Masters of Fine Art majoring in Sculpture at Kookmin University, South Korea.
Jina didn’t recognise it initially, but the time spent studying traditional Korean arts and culture planted a seed within her that would later bloom.
Jina specializes in stone sculptures inspired by organic forms. Lee uses traditional techniques of chiselling and polishing to present a tactile and timeless finish. She works with all types of stones as well as working with bronze, incorporating this medium into her sculptures to compliment the stone. Lee is hands-on from the very first steps of designing the concept, sourcing materials for sculptures and physically creating the artwork herself at her studio at J Shed in Fremantle, WA, Australia.
Her stone sculptures are installed in public and private collections both interstate and internationally.
