In her vibrant yet gritty abstract photographs of ordinary objects, Helen Shearwood explores various themes including the power of perspective, how our inner worlds relate to our outer realities, and the psychology driving our behaviour.
After decades of being unwell, Shearwood gradually realised that viewing everyday objects from a different perspective could transform them into beautiful abstract images. This re-ignited her desire to question, to create and ultimately, to live.
In 2020 she published her first book Infinite Beauty, juxtaposing her abstract photographs with social media responses to the question ‘What is beauty to you?’; the felt experience proving to be the common thread.
Shearwood intelligently meshes the gritty and the refined. Her love of colour, texture and pattern permeate her art while she playfully explores new media and new themes.
