David (son) and Richard (father) create sculptures and artifacts from stone mined primarily in the Pilbara that are sold and collected internationally, including through Christie’s, Sotheby’s, other prominent auction houses and international galleries.
David is a gemstone carver. His father Richard is a stonemason with a diploma in gemology. The scale of their creations varies from monumental to almost utilitarian, the beauty of the geological specimen being revealed through their understanding of the inherent crystal structure and painstaking machining of the rock.
David carves using Marramamba Tiger Eye and Tiger Iron, Orbicular granite, jasper and pyrite, hematite, amethyst and other semi-precious stones. Tiger Eye and Tiger Iron, in the form in which the Williamsons use them are found only in Western Australia and mostly in the Pilbara.
