David Hummerston

David formally pursued a life-long passion for contemporary art after leaving a senior
editorial role at the State’s major daily newspaper 15 years ago.

He received a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) from Curtin University in 2013. Although
initially intending to major in his long-held interests of contemporary art history,
painting and printmaking, David was enticed by sculpture, digital collage and
drawing because of the breadth of the materiality and a perceived potential to
convey emotions and humour.

His work has a wide artistic content focus – from the exploration of memory and
memory distortion; texture and minimalism; disrupted portraiture; allegorical series
based on the absurd and comical; and the interlacing of art history with popular
culture. He often uses multi-layering to create visual interest and a narrative.
