Claire Beausein

Claire Beausein is a visual artist based in the town of Broome, in the remote Kimberley region of Western Australia. Finding that the mystery of nature holds a bounty of metaphors and meanings, Claire translates her response to landscape into artworks that speak of transience, memory and relationship; working across numerous media including oil on canvas, cast paper, watercolour, installation and sculpture.

Awarded a Mid Career Fellowship by the Department of Culture and the Arts WA in 2012, Claire researched at the Basel Paper Mill during a 4-month residency at the Natural History Museum of Basel, Switzerland where she learned and developed her unique approach to arts practice. “The sensuality of organic forms inspires me to make textural works of handmade paper and oil on canvas – idea mediums to pursue ranges of possibilities in surface and structure.” Claire Beausein 2013
