Born in Hong Kong and now rooted in Australia, my artistic practice is shaped by a profound sense of gratitude for this landscape and the second chance it has given me. My experience in Australia has been one of wonder and reflection. The land continuously surprises me with its raw beauty, vast solitude and all the stories it holds. Among these, the withered trees speak to me the most. There is an inexplicable sadness and loneliness in their forms, a sense of being forgotten that resonates deeply with my journey of adapting to a new home.
However, I do not believe that anything in this world is truly forgotten. Everything holds its own value and beauty that is waiting to be discovered, even a dead tree trunk. In my ceramic work, I re-create these withered trees, appreciating their rugged angles and silent presence. Through clay, I transform their essence into something new, preserving their beauty in another form.
My art is a reflection of rebirth. Just as Australia has given me a new life, my sculptures seek to honour these forgotten objects by giving them a renewed existence. Each piece is a dialogue between fragility and strength, past and present. I hope to share the unseen beauty that embodies survival, adaptation, transformation and the connection between nature and human experience.
