about this exhibition
17 FEBRUARY - 11 MARCH, SUBIACO. Official opening 6-8pm Thursday 22 February.
As a landscape painter living in Western Australia, it is impossible not to be affected by the fierce light, intense colour, immense space and endless horizons of this extraordinary landscape. Through filtered memory, I reassemble a range of images striking a balance between realism and abstraction. A constant throughout my work is the horizon line. Experience gained from flights over the landscape and journeys inland have enabled me to approach my paintings from two perspectives – the illusion of distance beyond the horizon, and an overview of the landscape below the horizon line. This duality has been essential to my work. The additional elements of dawn, late afternoon, twilight, a moon, a star, shadows, dust, fire, wind and haze – all give my landscapes a specific mood.
