JUDITH WHITE – ISLAND

Artist: Judith White
Location: perth
30 JULY - 21 AUGUST, PERTH CITY. The issue of water has been a recurring theme in Judith White’s work. Island focuses on the junction of land and water, the power of the natural environment and the interaction of human history and endeavour at the very edge of this connection. Painting expeditions to Svalbard in Norway, Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour and Flinders Island off Tasmania provided subjects, some isolated and timeless, others layered with human history and activity. OFFICIAL OPENING is a City of Perth Winter Arts Festival event: "Bach in the Dark - The Painted Bach", performed by visual artist Judith White and cellist Rachel Scott on Thursday 11 August 6:30-8:30pm. In a darkened room, Rachel Scott plays Bach's Fifth Suite for solo cello. Behind her, on three screens, Judith White creates a visual representation of the music. This program has been presented in Sydney and Grafton.
