STEPHEN GLASSBOROW

Recent Sculptures and Drawings

29 April - 14 May 2010

Stephen Glassborow’s sculptures combine the elegance, beauty and attention to detail of the past with frequent references to current technology and robotics.

Glassborow’s approach to casting bronze recalls the fluidity and grace of bygone masters such as Donatello, as well as the decorative emphasis of the Art Deco era where an opulent, even lavish style became the vogue after the austerity of World War 1.

“My work,” says Stephen, “appears to have references to Art Deco, but this is meshed with other influences. Fashion imagery, phot

Celia Perceval 2010

“Recent Paintings”

An exhibition of new works by

Celia Perceval

After a two-year sojourn in the UK, Celia Perceval has returned to her Australian roots and to painting the native bush that was so much a part of her upbringing.

Born in Brighton, Melbourne in 1949, Celia Perceval is primarily a self-taught painter. She developed her inspiration for drawing and painting in the artistic environment created by her parents, Mary Boyd and the late John Perceval, and first exhibited at the age of sixteen. Her earliest mentors included members of Melbourne’s famous “Angry Penguins” group, Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Albert Tucker and, of course, her father, John Perceval.

This exhibition of evocative new works is the culmination of many trips around Australia, encompassing journeys through Western Australia, New South Wales, V

Helen Norton - The Divine Road

Helen Norton has long been drawn to Dante Alighieri’s epic 14th Century poem, ‘The Divine Comedy’. ‘The Divine Road’ is a theme not previously explored and she has embraced it to produce an exciting, dramatic and vibrant new body of work that applies Dante’s themes to her perception of life’s challenges in the 21st Century.

The three clear sections of work in ‘The Divine Road’ may be seen as a progressive journey through Norton’s own Divine Comedy, from ‘Oasis of Fire (Sandfire)’, to ‘Purgatory Mountain’ and culminating in the most recent works painted from her new studio in the Perth hills, the ‘Divine Road’, which can be interpreted as a metaphorical paradise.

Thoughout her career Norton has given the viewer a smorgasbord of fantasy, allegory and humour. ‘The Divine Road’ is an outstanding new stage in her journey and one that will intrigue and delight her e

George Ward Tjungurrayi

George Ward Tjungurrayi

A solo show of paintings by George Ward Tjungurrayi is truly a singular event, so much so that although he is one of Australia’s most venerated and collected Indigenous artists and has been painting for over 30 years, this is his first solo exhibition in Perth and only the second solo ever.

Twelve exquisite paintings, ranging in size from 122 x 153cm to 183 x 305 cm are on exhibition at Linton & Kay Fine Art in Subiaco daily from Thursday 25th March to Sunday 18th April.

Born about 1947 near Kiwirrkura in Western Australia, George Ward Tjungurrayi first painted for Papunya Tula Artists in 1976 and was awarded the prestigious Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2004.

George paints the sacred and secret Tingari Cycle, using a webbing of dark ochres in a strictly delineated, geometric sty

LOOKING BEYOND

an exhibition of new works by

MACKENZIE THORPE

1 - 18 October 2009

Mackenzie Thorpe has an inclusive view of the world. There’s good and bad, black and white one could almost say, but for Mackenzie there’s also almost every shade in between.  He is attuned to the full gamut, reacting with joy, acceptance or indignation, his use of colour and symbols frequently the key to his emotional responses. The message of triumph over adversity rings loudly in every Mackenzie Thorpe work.

A child from a working class background, Mackenzie grew up amongst the ship builders and labourers of Middlesborough in North

Ronald John Neal

LET THE SHOW GO ON

4 - 19 March 2010

Ronald John Neal is one of Australia’s most noticed young, neo-realist painters. His passion for depicting the familiar finds an inspiring outlet in Let the Show Go On, a powerful and energetic collection that will command great attention from all who see it.

Here, Neal gives us a grand view of the familiar subject of carnival and of side show alley. He communicates his response through the use of luminous, jewel-like colours in the night scenes or the meticulously planned placement of colour and shape in the day scenes. Over the top characteristics of the fairground predominate, peopled not by film extras but by real life

Jules Sher - Down to Earth

JULES SHER

Jules Sher has an enviable profile garnered through decades of making intelligent paintings of the highest stature that reflect place, time and situation through abstraction. While he needs no introduction to collectors and art lovers, ‘Down to Earth’ is his first Perth solo show in many years.

‘As an abstract landscape painter, I am drawn to the immense space of Western Australia. The distillation of images of this space from an aerial point of view assists me in pursuing an abstract vision of these vast tracts.

In my studio I reassemble filtered memories of the landscape striking a balance between structural concerns and spatial illusion. The horizon line acts as a fulcrum between the earth and sky. This has been a constant theme for many years.

Add to this the elements of space, light, distance and atmosphere which help in integrating earth and sky, givin

"Moving into a new house with a beautiful new, much larger and lighter studio, it has been a joy to return to the Rottnest

Palla Jeroff

DESERT DIARY

4 - 21 June 2009

Palla Jeroff’s powerful new exhibition, Desert Diary, sees the remote Australian outback continuing as his main source of inspiration.  Over the two decades that he has lived in Australia, the Simpson Desert and other remote areas have fascinated and absorbed this artist.
The emotional connection between the barren plains of Western China, the landscape of his youth, and the Australian outback is clearly evident.
The vast tracts of Palla’s paintings continue, for him, to represent a metaphor for life. His figures are loners, preoccupied by their isolation or quietly enj

The Nobility of the Ordinary

7 - 24 May

Julie Davidson’s paintings could be described as romantic realism. Within these works the impact of realism is immediate, even more so because the object often stands alone and isolated, hiding within a symbolism that is both historically grounded and idiosyncratic. Romanticism combines the imaginative and emotional to produce a grand, idealized view of reality.

Stephen Glassborow

Playtime   4  -  21 September 2008

Stephen Glassborow’s sculptures are as much the result of his artistic virtuosity as of his personal view of the world. They are emphatically playful, frequently deriving their inspiration from phrases of popular culture, and are founded on his love for Art Deco and Pop Art.

“Every artist has to find a tool which helps to develop their ideas.  I use a thought or a phrase to feed my imagination.  Words induce images for me, those images help to create shapes in sculpture. I have lots of little likes that I have made a note of.  They hang around like bubbles.  The bubbles combine and develop into the core of an idea – bronze makes them permanent.

“I am pursuing my idea of beauty, where ever it takes me.”

Born in Hastings, Stephen studied at Brighton Co

“An Attempt at Obedience”

An exhibition of new works by

Bob Booth

13th - 28th March 2008

“The completion of a new exhibition is always a time of demanding reflection.  Letting go of each development that seems to offer some ‘know-how’ security, is never comfortable;  but for me remains a sort of personalised requirement for progress.

“Any notion of arriving at some mastery that offers certainty to my next effort is not really a hope at all, as I note that progress depends on obedience rather than mastery.

“The inner necessity of the work, (that very small unassuming voice,) requires a corresponding inner silence of the painter.  It seems to be a process of developing sensitivity to what is required of me in order to follow.”

Bob Booth’s paintings transport us to a level beyond mere looking.  He is an original artist – not because his subject matter is different but be
