Mackenzie Thorpe has an inclusive view of the world. There’s good and bad, black and white one could almost say, but for Mackenzie there’s also almost every shade in between.  He is attuned to the full gamut, reacting with joy, acceptance or indignation, his use of colour and symbols frequently the key to his emotional responses. The message of triumph over adversity rings loudly in every Mackenzie Thorpe work.

A child from a working class background, Mackenzie grew up amongst the ship builders and labourers of Middlesborough in Northern England. He believes that those difficult times were crucial in helping him understand what was truly important in life.

Mackenzie’s works express an entire range of human emotion, from the special bond of love and friendship, to the importance of self-reflection and individual triumphs.  His works are a tribute to the creativity within us all and are a vivid expression of hope and the human spirit.

“I believe that there is hope, and that you can be happy if you work at it. If you see a flower, look at it, paint it – but don’t pick it, don’t hurt it! That’s the kind of innocence I’m trying to get across.”

Mackenzie has again given his generous support to Channel 7’s Telethon.
